What tiles to use in a walk-in shower?
There are so many different floor tile designs that picking the perfect one for your bathroom can get confusing. You want to make sure that your walk-in shower is perfect…so the pressure is really on! So, there are a few different design ideas to think about when determining the best tiles to use for your walk-in shower. Let’s go over some below.
- According to Architectural Digest, ceramic tiles are probably the best material you can use for both your walk-in shower and bathroom floor. If you want to get creative and artsy, many people like incorporating mosaic tiles into the bathroom shower mix. However, keep in mind that these tiles are extremely slippery – so be careful and watch your step!
- Porcelain tiles are another popular shower tile material. They’re fired at a much higher temperature than ceramic (and other materials), making them very durable and strong. Additionally, porcelain shower tile designs come in many different colors and patterns – I’d recommend going to a home store near you and finding a few options you like.
- Glass tile is another option that people like to use for walk-in showers…especially when creating a more modern bathroom look. People like it because it’s fairly low-maintenance, but keep in mind it can be pricier than porcelain or ceramic tiles.
How much does a walk-in tiled shower cost?
Obviously your walk-in shower design price is going to depend on a few different factors. For instance – the type of tiling you choose, how big or small your shower is, and the specific contractor you hire are all factors that will impact price.
However, the typical tiled walk-in shower is going to cost you anywhere from around $2,500 to $5,000. I would recommend finding a local contractor and asking them to quote you!

Sometimes, all you need in your doorless walk-in shower is to incorporate white subway tiles. I like how they complimented the tile with gridded glass panel to take the black-and-white color scheme to the next level.
#7 – Incorporate Natural Light

Remodel your bathroom in a space that allows for optimal natural light. Then, you won’t be trying to add in a bunch of different lighting and color combinations to force light in. I also love how large this shower is – large enough for dual shower-heads!
#8 – A Timeless Design with Accent Features

We’re back to the white subway tiles…why? Because it’s a timeless design that will never go out of style! You can make your space look more traditional or modern, depending on what accent features you want to add. Here, they opted for a more modern look with the glass shower door and gold faucet accents.
#9 – Natural Stone with Slate Tiles

Here, we have a more rustic walk-in shower tile idea. The natural stone mixed with slate tiles and more neutral colors allows the space to feel cozy and homey…almost like your own personal oasis. I think this bathroom design would look great in a smaller guest bathroom, as well.

#12 – Contrast Stone & Brick

With a large stone surround in the walk-in shower and exposed brick-bathroom walls, this bathroom design just works well. It’s definitely different and certainly not a style for everyone, but it would look great in a small city apartment or quaint loft.
#13 – Large Rectangle Tiles and Mixing Shapes

This modern shower features large, rectangular tiles with an inlet of tiny hexagon shaped tiles! The white/gray undertone color scheme that they choose definitely gives into a more modern shower design.

#18 – Limit Your Color Scheme

Here, the homeowner arranged the mosaic tile patterns into different shapes, accompanied with a glass shower door and mirror.
