What is a fireplace mantel?
Ooooo…the question of the hour!! Traditionally, a mantel is a shelf above a fireplace. However, some people like to decorate their mantels while others prefer a minimalistic style. In other words, it’s essentially it’s a built-in shelf that acts as a natural focal point in the room. So, what design style do you prefer for your fireplace mantel?
What can I put around my fireplace?

Firstly, if you have a mantel, think about some home decor that you can incorporate that also matches your living space. For instance, some people like to hang a mirror over a wood mantel for a more modern fireplace mantel look.
Or, put a sconce or two over the mantel to provide a bit more light. Furthermore, think about putting a decorative bookcase above the mantel. Um, total design inspiration!
Secondly, think about doing a makeover around your fireplace. For example, if you have a more outdated fireplace area, re-tile it! In this case, it’s a perfect DIY project that will add some texture to the area.
Thirdly, think about setting some decor on the floor around the fireplace. And if you have kids, make sure you use decor they won’t be able to get into!
Furthermore, I’ve seen some people do a flower arrangement next to a wood-burning fireplace or even incorporate a modern stoking kit so you can build up your wood fireplace. Or, another one of my favorite ideas is putting a blanket and pillows around the fireplace, creating a cozy nook…making it the perfect space for you to read a book and warm up!
