What is Boho Style?
So when I think boho style I envision plants, lots of plants. Hah! But seriously, to me boho represents an eclectic mix of colors and textures – coming together to create a relaxed, laid back and vintage look. Therefore, if you’re going for that boho room design, we recommend low-level seating. Similarly, lots of plants, different textures and patterns and mix of different lighting sources. Above all, bohemian style is definitely its own aesthetic…and it’s super popular right now. If you would like to explore the key elements of boho style in more depth, check out this article.
Tips on How to Channel Your Boho Style
In other words, before we dive into actual staple pieces to put in your living room, I wanted to share some quick tips with you. We’re going to help you encompass that bohemian style mantra.
Firstly, add global accents. In other words, traditional bohemian culture prides itself on curating pieces from all over the world. For instance – think Buddha statues with Indian tribal prints and then add family heirlooms or trinkets from your traveling days.
Secondly, use a plethora of different textures and colors. For instance, who would have thought floral throw pillows and tribal print vases would go together. But with bohemian decor – all rules go out the window! Layering is your friend 🙂 Fringe, crochet, geometric patterns, burlap (I seriously love the burlap look) – utilize it ALLL! Macrame plant hangers – dare I say more!?
Thirdly, use both natural and vintage touches when creating that bohemian living room. The 60’s and 70’s hippie era definitely influenced boho decor. We’re talking LOTS of raw materials. Additionally, boho style encompasses a lot of vintage pieces (that often tell a story)…so you want to be on the lookout for that second-hand look.
Finally, have FUN with it! Interior design does not have a rulebook. Especially when it comes to boho home decor. After that, creating that boho look shouldn’t be stressful – it should be FUN!
Wait!! Now that we’ve covered the basics of the decor style, I’m so excited to finally share with you some pieces I picked out for that boho chic living room look. In fact, I’ve separated it all into smaller subcategories on staple pieces that will look great in any living room.
