In case you missed it…here’s my post last month as seen on Angie’s List! I LOVE all things Red, White and Blue and with both Memorial Day and Fourth of July in the horizon, I thought today I’d show you an easy way you can create a DIY Patriotic Cake Stand with just a few supplies and about 30 minutes of your time! I used to make these with my grandmother growing up for literally every holiday imaginable, so it’s fun to take an old crafting idea and update it into something current and fun!!
DIY Patriotic Cake Stand
Here’s the supplies you need for this project:
1 bottle of Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Formula
1 paint brush
1 8″ round glass plate
1 small glass dish or wide candle stick of your choice for cake plate base
fabric
pom pom trim
scissors and pen
hot glue gun
How to:
1.Start by laying your plate upside on your rolled out fabric and tracing a circle around the plate. Then cut the circle to give you the fabric piece you’ll be mod podging down.
2. Next, apply a thick coat of mod podge DIRECTLY onto the back of the plate and lay your fabric face down on top of plate. Smooth out the wrinkles and make sure it’s even around all the sides.
3. Next, apply another thick coat of mod podge directly onto the fabric, again being sure to eliminate any air bubbles or wrinkles. If a bubble does happen, use a thin needle to get the air out and make the fabric lay down flat.
4. Let dry, then apply one more coat.
Once your plate is dry, use your hot glue gun to glue trim around the edges of the plate.
Finally, hot glue your small dish to the bottom of the plate.
Note: with the poms and dish on the bottom of the plate, this is not dishwasher safe despite using the dishwasher safe mod podge.
To clean, I’d use a damp rag on the top being such to wash gently.

The whole project is very simple to make and will really WOW your guests these upcoming holidays!
