What should I hand out for Halloween?
While most houses will be handing out your typical candy bars – think M&M’s and Reese’s, there are a plethora of other Halloween candy options to give out. Although most trick-or-treaters may not love a healthy Halloween, I guarantee that many will also be thankful for some great alternatives. So, think gluten free kiddos!). Furthermore, if you are trying to stay healthier this Halloween, handing out healthy Halloween treats will help curb your cravings! Therefore, whether you hand out candy corn or veggie sticks is really your choice. Or if you even hand out glow sticks – who cares! There is no rulebook to Halloween night.
What is the healthiest drug store candy?
Unfortunately, I don’t have a hard and fast answer for you on this one. After doing some research, I found that many different qualified nutritionists have different opinions. For instance, Meredith Price, founder of Priceless Nutrition & Wellness said that a Snickers bar was the healthiest sweet treat. Because Snickers had the lowest amount of saturated fat.
However, Natalie Rizzo – a dietician and author had a different view. She claimed that a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar was the healthiest option to satisfy your sweet tooth. As a matter of fact, she found that Hershey’s had lower preservatives and less added sugar than other candy.
So, basically – there are pros and cons with all the candy goodies. Above all, there are a reason kids love sugar! So, if you’re looking for those healthier alternatives for this Halloween – keep reading!
What are some healthy candy alternatives for Halloween?
In the first place, if you’re against handing out any candy at all – don’t worry. I’ve even seen people hand out small toys. You could do stickers, temporary tattoos, spider rings or even crayons and erasers for school. Oriental Trading and Amazon are both great options for purchasing toys.
In addition, you can also hand out apples. I remember that even as a child I LOVED Honey Crisp apples. Because they’re unreal in sweetness and always gave me that extra spurt of energy. If you want, you could go pick apples with the family and then decorate them before handing them out. You could put some peanut butter on the apples. Or even Nutella. If you’re feeling adventurous – arrange a snack pack for kids to take off the porch.
