The farmhouse style is one of my favorite home decor styles; it’s the perfect mix of rustic charm and modern simplicity. However, finding farmhouse laundry room ideas can be both an exciting time and also stressful. Therefore, we’ve put together our favorite farmhouse laundry room ideas so your laundry area can have the best design inspiration.
What is the farmhouse style?
When I think about the farmhouse decor, I envision a mixture between modern comforts and rustic charm. It’s similar to the shabby chic style, but features more practical contemporary touches. Basically, it’s a comfortable, relaxed style that boasts modern touches and typically neutral color schemes.
What is a farmhouse laundry room?
A farmhouse mudroom is a room specifically designed for doing laundry. Often times, the room will have a washer and dryer, and sometimes even a farmhouse sink and faucet. Moreover, some laundry room decor features drying racks, open shelving for ample storage space, and countertops so you can fold away!
A farmhouse laundry room often incorporates a lot of rustic accent pieces. For example, many people love jute laundry hampers, a neutral backsplash for the wall tile, and reclaimed wood countertops.
How do I design a farmhouse laundry room?
If you’re unsure of what to incorporate into your farmhouse mudroom, let’s take a look at some of the different decor ideas out there.
Firstly, think about laundry room storage. If your space is smaller, you might not have any room for extra storage. However, if you can, find ways to incorporate open shelving or lots of countertop room.
Secondly, every modern farmhouse laundry room needs a laundry sign! We love getting charming signs off of Etsy that totally compliment the interior design of the room.
Thirdly, think about how you want to do the walls. For instance, some people do DIY projects and do shiplap walls themselves. Or, others incorporate subway tile as the foundation focal point of their laundry room makeover. It’s up to you! Then, you can match the floor tile to the backsplash!
Fourthly, think about the lighting in the room. You want to have a large enough light fixture (or multiple) to be able to see the work you’re doing.
Lastly, think about cabinetry and how to incorporate a rustic look into them. For example, do you want reclaimed wood or cherry-stained cabinets to compliment the utility sink?
What should every laundry room have?
Well, this probably goes without saying – but a washing machine and dryer are crucial. With that, you should have plenty of detergent, bleach, stain remover, dryer sheets – whatever other laundry products you use.
Additionally, I like to have an ironing board and an iron in my laundry room. Trust me, you never know when you’ll have a last minute job interview or have to go to your kid’s piano recital – and that iron will sure come in handy!
Moreover, I use my laundry room for extra storage space. Therefore, when I designed my laundry room, I made sure that I would have ample room for both laundry space and some miscellaneous things. Therefore, when I was shopping for decor – I made sure that I bought products that would fit into my workspace and also were great storage solutions. And they looked stylish, of course!
