What is the farmhouse style?
When I think about the farmhouse decor, I envision a mixture between modern comforts and rustic charm. It’s similar to the shabby chic style, but features more practical contemporary touches. Basically, it’s a comfortable, relaxed style that boasts modern touches and typically neutral color schemes.
What is the difference between a loveseat and a couch?
Before you start shopping for a couch, it’s imperative you know what type of furniture you’re wanting to purchase.
Surprisingly, there isn’t actually much difference between a loveseat and a couch. Traditionally, loveseats are designed for two people and are therefore smaller than a couch. A couch can come in a plethora of sizes (think sectional or chesterfield sofa).
So, it really depends on the home decor style you’re going for in determining if you want a loveseat or a couch. Therefore, I’d recommend first deciding where you want to put the piece of furniture (family room, living room, bedroom, etc). Then, measure this space to know what you can fit/not fit into that particular living space.
What are some features of a farmhouse couch?
One thing that many people appreciate about the farmhouse design is that there is no “hard and fast” rule on what type of decor is allowed. So, when picking out a couch you have some design freedom, but there are still a few common characteristics of a farmhouse couch.
Firstly, a tufted back couch features upholstery that’s fastened to the frame with evenly spaced buttons. They’re really comfortable and provide a more traditional yet classy look.
Secondly, a slipcovered sofa is extremely common in the farmhouse style. Basically, this is a sofa that comes with a removable cover. Not only does it protect the upholstery, but it often provides a traditional draping look that a lot of people love.
Thirdly, sectional sofas are often popular for living room decor, especially in bigger families. With the farmhouse look, many people opt for an off-white or creamy sectional sofa color.
Lastly, square arm sofas are generally pretty popular as well. This is your basic smaller sofa, commonly known as a track arm sofa as well.
What are the best materials for a farmhouse couch?
There are quite a few different fabrics to go with the farmhouse look. Typically, linen is the most common type of fabric. Not only is it a reliable fabric with great texture, linen goes with anything! And the best part is, you can never have enough of it! For instance, pair your linen fabric sofa with linen accent pillows and your space will look great.
Additionally, cotton or skirted fabrics are also really popular. That’s what I love about farmhouse sofas, there are a plethora of both color and fabric options.
Burlap is also a popular fabric when going for that farmhouse look. I don’t necessarily recommend it for your sofa, because it can be itchy, but you can accentuate your space with some burlap throw pillows. If you’re looking for the Best Farmhouse Throw Pillows, check out our article here.
