One of the hardest things about Back to School is how to create a morning routine for your child so they can get dressed for school, brush their teeth, and get ready in a timely manner with minimal tears and yelling (or is that just in my house?). Creating a morning routine is paramount to setting your child’s expectations for how the day should go and, quite frankly, it’s just as hard for the parents to get back into a structured morning routine, as well. But what if…just what if …you could make it easier to get your kids up and moving without so much effort? Meet Philips Hue Smart Lighting.
With Philips Hue, you can control and personalize your entire house’s lighting all with the touch of a button from an app on your phone. You can turn on lights in any room, change them to any color, dim and brighten them…all depending on the time of day, the mood, or the purpose of your lighting. While most of us give light little thought beyond flipping our switch on or off when we need light or don’t, Philips Hue allows you to do so much more with light, including helping your family transition into the school year.
(You can also control your Hue lighting with your voice – we have paired it with our Alexa to make it even easier to manage!)
The Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance starter kitis the best way to get started with smart lighting. It gives you everything you need to outfit a room; this includes:
- A bridge, which is the heart of the Hue system. It allows for the app-based control of the Hue lights.
- An Ethernet cable to connect the bridge to your wireless router, and a power cord to plug the bridge into any standard outlet.
- Four A19 standard-size LED light bulbs capable of emitting 16 million colors or 50,000 shades of white light. You can install the bulbs in any standard, indoor light fixture.
One of my FAVORITE parts about Philips Hue is using it to create a wake-up morning routine for my kids, who can barely get out of bed in the morning. It helps to prevent chaotic mornings and makes it easier to get my family up and ready for school when it’s dark outside. You can set your Hue app to set the Hue lights to turn on at 30% brightness to gently get your family up, and then turn them to 100% brightness as they get ready to leave! You can even set the time it automatically turns on and the time it turns off (in the event that they rush out of the house and leave the lights on…like my kids do).
The other cool thing about Hue is that you can customize it to help you and your family throughout the rest of the day, too. My daughter loves when I set her bedroom to hot pink while she plays, but I can easily switch it over to “read” mode in order to brighten the room up and make it comfortable…just at the touch of a button! At night time we dim the lights or turn on the pre-set “Relax” scene to set the right tone for winding down at the end of a busy day. We also use Hue’s “Go to sleep” routine, which is great because you can set a specific time you want bedtime to begin and how long you want the lights to gradually lower until they turn off, gently easing your family to bed. Awesome, right?!
There are so many options with Philips Hue. This smart lighting can help your family adjust to new schedules, create good homework habits, as well as create better sleep schedules all year long. Hopefully this will allow YOUR family to create better morning routines or even daily routines now that school has started back up!
