We’re finally in the thick of summer and of course, it’s already seeming to fly right by us! We’re grilling out, spending time at the pool, and enjoying delicious sweet treats with our kids (you only live once!). Everyone LOVES the standard strawberry shortcake and right now strawberries are at their peak, but have you ever substituted shortcake for a donut before…and not just any donut, a warm, grilled Krispy Kreme donut?! I bet you haven’t! Today I’m thinking you’ll fall in love with these delicious Grilled Donuts with Berries and Fresh Whipped Cream on top! It’s a really fun dessert idea perfect for summer grilling season.
Ingredients:
Krispy Kreme Original Donuts (or other donut of choice)
Fresh Strawberries washed and sliced
Fresh Blackberries washed
1/2 cup sugar
1 oz. container whipping cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/8 cup sugar
How to:
Start by washing your fruit and getting your strawberries sliced up. Once the strawberries are sliced, put them in a separate container with 1/2 cup of sugar and mix until juicy. This creates a great sauce for your “shortcake”.
Next up, get your Homemade Whipped Cream started. I stopped buying the Cool Whip last year and started making my own and I PRRROOMISE you that you won’t be disappointed by making the switch. You just need whipping cream, vanilla, and sugar and mix on high until it’s stabilized and fresh. Set in fridge until you need it.
Next, withĀ get your grill fired up. All you need is charcoal! Place your donuts right on the grill and push down lightly on the top. Grill them for about 3-4 minutes until heated through with light grill marks, then pull off.
Top with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and then throw a few black berries on top for good measure! Wouldn’t this make the PERFECT Fourth of July dessert?! A great patriotic dessert that’s unexpected, delicious, fresh, and easy to make–and everyone will go bonkers over your great idea!
I hope you get a chance to try this delicious and easy dessert! You won’t be sorry!
It has never crossed my mind to try to grill donuts but this sounds so clever! My family always has a huge party for the 4th of July and this sounds like it would be a party hit. Does the glaze on the donuts not burn or stick to the grill? I know that honey can sometimes do that.
The glaze does stick a bit…but I flipped them a few times and moved them around. Ultimately, they’re only on the grill for a few minutes and long enough to get some chargrilled marks…it adds some fun flavor and makes them gooey and soft! My kids LOOOOVED them. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! š
