Do you have kiddos in sports? If so then you for sure know how hard it can be financially to keep up with all the things that they need to participate in these sports. And we’re not talking fancy shoes or clothing, we’re talking the basics to keep them safe like helmets, shin guards, protective eye gear, and more! This year has been a hard year on many families due to the pandemic, so perhaps sports seasons are even harder for you or a friend or family member to navigate. Today I want to share with you a unique partnership with Superspecs for the 2020-2021 Sports Season and how they are working to provide FREE protective eyewearto children ages 18 and younger! This is the only state-wide program of it’s kind and is created by the Ohio Ophthalmological Society. Superspecs provides baseball and softball helmets with face masks, elders’ masks, goggles, vocational eye wear and prescription sports goggles to thousands of children each year! And as of July 1, Superspecs is taking applications for FREE protective gear for the 2020-2021 program year.
How to Get Free Protective Eye Wear for Young Athletes
Superspecs has three main programs focused on eye safety:
YouthSports – Soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball athletes can play with more confidence using protective eye equipment, all free of charge.
Vocational– Students can focus on learning with their free eye safety wear in vocational programs such as dental hygiene, heating and air technology, engineering and architectural design, welding and fabrication, auto body collision and repair, and auto services.
PrescriptionGoggles – Free prescription sports goggles for qualifying children who wear glasses.
Truth is…the facts related to youth eye injuries are alarming:
Approximately 45,000 sports and recreation eye injuries occur each year. More than half are suffered by children and may cause loss of vision or complete loss of an eye.
Eye injuries are the leading cause of blindness in children, according to the Ohio Ophthalmological Society.
90% of injuries can be prevented when children wear proper eye protection.
Every 13 minutes, someone is treated for a sports-related eye injury in a US emergency room.
In 2019, more than 80,000 Ohio children wore Superspecs gear – that’s nearly 20,000 pieces of equipment distributed throughout all 88 counties.
Applyingonline is quick and easy. League administrators, parents and teachers can apply on behalf of their children/students, and multiple team and classroom requests can be completed
in one easy application.
Superspecs also provides application for free softball and baseball helmets too, as well as softball fielders masks!
The prescription goggle application process begins by completing the application online. If qualified, the applicant can then take the completed information to a local, participating provider to complete the order.
Interested teams, schools, and individuals can find out more about Superspecs and how to receive free protective eyewear by visiting www.superspecs.com.
For years I have struggled with what to do with my holiday cards. Typically they just get taped up to the side of my refrigerator until after NYE and then I take them down and toss them put them in a memory box to cherish for a lifetime ;). I always felt like I should…
Anyone else feel like your kids are growing up at triple the speed you did? I feel like my daughter, now five, just catapulted herself through the last five years and I end up reeling with the knowledge that she starts kindergarten later this year. Because time seems to be flying by at a rapid…
