So a few weeks ago I started sharing with you guys how I was in the middle of making over my Master Bedroom Closet and TODAY I am finally happy to share with you the full DIY Closet Makeover Reveal! Yay! This project took WAY longer than it should have because it was started while we were in the middle of our master bathroom makeover, but it’s finally done and I’m in love. We got all of our products at Lowe’s with a $1,500 or less budget and it came together just as I’d hoped. If you are seeking ideas on a small closet makeover then you have come to the right place. Let’s review the before…
Not pictured: disgusting old mirrored closet doors
To start with we had:
- No organization
- Outdated trim
- Not making use of space we had
- No shoe storage
- No aesthetic quality whatsoever
My goals for this makeover were to:
- Get more organized
- Make better use of the little space we do have
- Brighten the room up and give it some character
- Make it look less 1980’s and more 2018
- Make it our own.
Let’s look at what it looks like now…
Before I even open up the doors, you can tell the room has been hugely improved. We bought these gorgeous White Closet Doors from Lowe’s that were exactly what the room needed to brighten everything up. We also ripped out the old outdated trim and replaced it with this thicker white trim with the help of my dad’s expertise.
Then let’s open the doors and take a peek inside…are you so excited?! 😉
Ta da!! Look at that organization you guys! Look at that storage! I still cannot believe where we started and where we are now! A good side by side comparison always helps me…
Isn’t that insane!? So let’s recap the details. I used THIS awesome Allen and Roth closet organization system. It was very easy to put together and install, my only complaint is that the gray was a little more antiqued than I expected (almost a green hue to it) but nothing I couldn’t live with. If I could have done it all over again, I probably would have gone with the antique white instead, but since we had bright white doors I was worried the two whites would clash. Live and learn.
I obviously needed more space, so I like the fact that now my tops are all arranged on the top of my closet and my bottoms are on the bottom. My husband was able to fit all his clothes on the other side and we use the center storage for sweaters.
I bought my husband THIS shoe storage rack to tackle his shoes and then I used the one that came with the organizer, as well as the bins on top of the closet to store my shoes and boots. I will rotate the shoes I wear seasonally in and out of the bins throughout the year.
One of the things I really love about the Allen and Roth closet organizer is that it has a drawer on it, so now I store all of my underwear and bras in the closet so I have everything I need right at my finger tips when I get dressed in the morning. It then freed up space for me to clean out my regular dresser and free up some space! Yay for more room to fill those drawers! LOL
Another thing I did was to install little touch lights underneath the shelves so that I could see things easily and quickly just by touching the light.
I really found that now that my tops and bottoms are separated out it’s so much easier to get dressed quickly and I’m finally making good use of ALL the space in this small closet.
Then let’s talk about the room itself for a minute. We had an old, outdated fan previously, so we replaced it with this gorgeous, bright Hunter fan that just makes my heart so happy. The fan blades are interchangeable, so we can flip then over to white at some point if our hearts so desire!
The finishing touches on our closet doors were these simple chrome drawer pulls that we actually used in our master bathroom makeover, as well. They add a great level of sophistication to the room and make it look very clean and modern.
I just LOVE this whole makeover and how everything came together. A HUGE thanks to Lowe’s for collaborating with us on this post and providing the products that we used. Being able to pick up everything we needed for this project from Lowe’s was such a huge help. I ordered most of what I needed online and then showed up at the store when it was ready…so convenient.
