String Art DIY

Have I told you how much I love string art? I originally saw string art being sold on etsy, and then later saw several designs on Pinterest. Not only is it fun, but it is also budget friendly. An art project using string? I thought, how easy this has to be, even for the craft challenged! For most of my string art projects, I have scrounged the craft room and garage for extra pieces of wood, and turned that wood into pieces of art. What would be my next string art craft?

String Art DIY

I am a Texan by heart Idahoan in life, and so I decided something to fit in my nephews room in Texas would be a perfect project for me to tackle. His school mascot is a Steer and I used his initials! String art takes time, but all you need is a piece of wood (preferably ply-wood), ½ inch brad nails with a small head, and string. I used a couple of different types of string, and I find that twine works really well.

For this project, I printed out the mascot online, placed it on my board, nailed around the pattern, and then tore the paper off. I also took blue slick paint and filled in the steer. I used black twine, and began by outlining everything. Then just start crossing the string all over! Where did I find this board? I had it lying around. It used to be a bookshelf from Wal-Mart that fell apart….Since then, I have used it on this project and on Guitar String Art for my son’s room.

Here are a few more string art DIY’s you might enjoy.
