In our house, popcorn is a MUST HAVE for most days of the week. My kids love popcorn for snacks and movie nights and we have been known to drop some M&M’s into our popcorn on occasion to give it that delicious sweet and salty treat that we all love. I don’t know about you, but with Valentine’s Day coming up, I try hard every year to come up with something cute and simple for my kids to give out for Valentine’s Day–we try to make simple, affordable DIY Valentine’s with love. Since there are a million store bought, sugary, candy Valentine’s out there (with “candy” that is often extremely questionable), we really try to go outside the box and do something different. This last year I wanted to do share my kids love of popcorn, so we made this cute Popcorn Valentine idea and I put together a quick free Popcorn Valentine download for you to use if you decide to go this route!
DIY Kids Valentine with Free Printable
Tell me–do you DIY your Valentine’s cards each year or are you more of a store bought kinda person? No judging from here either way…we all have our strengths and weaknesses and only have so much time each year to get things done. And if you have multiple kids–you’re talking 30, 60, 90 Valentine’s quite possibly depending on your child’s age. It gets expensive and time consuming!! I always try to hit up the Dollar Store or a sales aisle for options if I’m creating my own Valentine’s so that I’m not buying full price items for an entire class of kids.
For this Popcorn Valentine idea, I bought individual size bags of popcorn that come in packs of 12 for under $6 a box…we have 30 kids in our class, so I bought three boxes and then I printed out the printable cards (Popcorn Valentine) and used existing washi tape and/or twice to add the cards onto the popcorn. So for me, the cost for this Valentine for one class was about $20.
For these easy DIY Popcorn Valentine’s here’s what you need:
Paper Cutter (not required, but goes so much faster and has cleaner cuts)
You can use unpopped bags of popcorn like I did or already popped bags like Smart Pop…lots of options and I love that these are non-candy valentine ideas, which is something harder to come by as of recent years!
All we do is cut out of the Free Valentine’s Cards and stick them onto the bags and VOILA, we have a cute homemade Valentine idea using this free Valentine’s Day Printable. I like to use a paper cutter to get through it faster and with nice clean cuts, but you can use regular scissors too if that’s all that you have on hand. Paper cutters are super inexpensive though, so it may be worth investing in one…you don’t know what you’re missing out on and it helps with other art and craft projects around your house too!
So there you have it….a super cute, DIY non-candy Valentine for kids that can be made affordably and without much fuss! If you want to size your own tags, you can download the original image files below too….they are sized a little differently depending on how much room your child needs to write names (my Kindergartener needs a lot of room, whereas my 4th grader needs less).
Hope you all have a great start to your 2020 and enjoy this fun little free Valentine Printable!
