Hydroflask vs ThermoFlask…which should you choose? When you have two products that are extremely similar, it can be hard to make a decision on which one you actually want. This is exactly the case with these two water bottles, Hydroflask and ThermoFlask. Whether you’re a hiker or are looking for a standard stainless steel bottle for everyday use, we’ve got everything you need to know about Hydroflask vs. ThermoFlask right here.
What are the advantages of a Hydroflask?
One of the benefits about Hydroflask is that they make a variety of insulated bottles that come in various shapes, colors, and size options. In fact, they have over 5 sizes for their standard water bottles plus wide mouth bottle options and various other insulated bottles. Plus, their designs look really trendy and sleek…very modern.
Many people love that Hydroflask makes insulated bottles for beer, wine, and coffee in addition to their tumblers and other products.
Another great thing about Hydroflask bottles is that they are specifically designed for hikers. They’re lighter than your average standard mouth bottle and features TempShield technology so your drinks can stay a certain temperature for long periods of time. For example, cold drinks stay ice-cold for 24 hours while hot beverages stay hot for up to 6 hours, thanks to Hydroflask’s vacuum insulation and double-wall.
Additionally, Hydroflask bottles are specifically designed to fit most hydration filters, so you can easily fill up with some ice-cold water while out on an adventure.
If you’re worried about the outside of your bottle cracking or paint gradually wearing away, don’t be. Hydroflask adds a proprietary powder coat to enhance durability, protect from perspiration, and to allow you to grip the bottle easier.
Furthermore, the lids of a Hydroflask are dishwasher safe, but you shouldn’t put the actual stainless steel water bottle in the dishwasher.
Both Hydroflask and ThermoFlask have a lifetime warranty, so you’re covered if something happens to your water bottle.
What are the advantages of a ThermoFlask?
ThermoFlask has one main water bottle design that comes in five different sizes. Therefore, they don’t offer as many product or color options as Hydroflask.
However, Hydroflask and ThermoFlask are made from the same high-quality material (18/8 food grade stainless steel). The main difference in the design of the ThermoFlask bottle is that they use a special type of paint that secures to the exterior of the bottle with a strong adhesive. This ensures that your bottle will keep its paint and shape for a long duration of time, even if you’re using it heavily.
ThermoFlask also uses a double-wall vacuum insulation to keep drinks ice-cold as well as maintain hot drinks such as tea or coffee. ThermoFlask says that cold drinks will keep retention for up to 24 hours and hot liquids up to 12 hours, which is 6 hours longer for hot drinks than Hydroflask. This is part due to the design of the bottle and the ThermoFlask seal being 100%.
As mentioned above, one main advantage of ThermoFlask water bottles is that all bottle caps are 100% leakproof. With Hydroflask, you have to take off the standard lid and buy a leakproof lid in addition to purchasing the Hydroflask water bottle.
Another advantage to purchasing a ThermoFlask product is the price, compared to Hydroflask products. ThermoFlask bottles retail for about $20 for a 24-ounce bottle WITH a leakproof lid.
What is the difference between a ThermoFlask and a Hydroflask?
Leakproof Lids
We touched on this in the above section, but one main difference is that ThermoFlask offers a 100% leakproof lid with the purchase of a water bottle. Standard Hydroflask bottles do not offer a 100% leakproof lid, you need to buy this separately. Typically, this a leakproof lid from Hydroflask is about $10 extra.
Because the ThermoFlask has a leakproof lid, their standard bottles can retain hot drinks for up to 12 hours, while Hydroflask can only hold them for up to 6 hours (with a standard lid). Trust me, these different lids can make a huge difference.
Price Difference
ThermoFlask bottles are definitely the cheaper option, as far as prices go. A typical ThermoFlask water bottle retails for about $20 for a 24-ounce bottle with a leakproof lid. Comparatively, a Hydroflask water bottle usually retails for about $35 for a 24-ounce bottle without a leakproof lid. If you want to switch out the standard lid for a leakproof one, then you would need to spend an extra $10. This is quite the price difference!
