You guys know that I have a longer history of trying out new and fun DIY and crafting products and this week is no exception. I discovered a fun new product to use in a super fun new way and because I wanted to show off all the great colors and ways to work with them, I decided to get a little colorful this week! I’m excited to show you guys this easy glaze coat project…a fun Watercolor Side Table topped with Unicorn Spit and Glaze Coat to top things off and protect it with a beautiful, shiny glazed coat.
What you need:
18×18 Birch Board
Saran Wrap
Water Spray Bottle
Roller
I started by sanding my Birch Board down and then choosing the Unicorn Spit colors I wanted to use on the project. I decided to go with some bright “Santa Fe” inspired colors to match some planters and pots we had.
I applied the paint directly onto the board and then used a spray bottle to wet the paint down.
This is when the magic happens. I feel like it’s very similar to awaiting to see how marbling paint works out on a project! You will apply saran wrap on top of the paint and then use a roller to gently push the paint around to create a beautiful watercolor effect.
When you get the look that you want you can stop or if you need to adjust you can add a little more paint, spray it down with water, and keep working until you get where you’d like to be. Lift the saran wrap and let dry.
I love how it turned out, but the work doesn’t stop there! Next up, I started using my Glaze Coat to seal the top of the table. I followed the instructions on the box, which were super easy, and mixed the epoxy together, then poured directly onto the table using a brush to even the epoxy out.
I made sure that the epoxy ran over the edges of the table to seal it in and then I let it sit and dry for 72 hours until it was firm.
Once finished, I used small 1/2″ wood screws to attach the hairpin legs that I got off Amazon to the bottom of the table.
Once finished, you can set whatever you like on the top and enjoy your latest work of art! I plan to try this again to create a small table to use in my living room.
I’ll be honest…I was super nervous about using the Glaze Coat for the first time, but it honestly was a breeze to use and I am OBSESSED with it! I can’t wait to try it again and put something fun in the mix like sequins or some other fun crafty item.
I hope you enjoyed this new tutorial and hope it inspires you all to step out of your comfort zone and try something new with your crafting and DIY projects.
