What is a farmhouse mirror?
Typically, a farmhouse mirror has bits and pieces of rustic design. For example, many farmhouse mirrors have frames that incorporate distressed wood or metal frames, all materials you would find in an old farmhouse.
However, some people decide to DIY farmhouse wall mirrors, often with reclaimed wood or distressing the mirror frame, so it looks older than it actually is. Some people use actual barn wood to create a rustic mirror.
On the other hand, the modern farmhouse style uses more contemporary materials mixed with a vintage look (such as natural wood).
Basically, there is no “guidebook” to what constitutes farmhouse mirror decor. Therefore, it’s up to your personal style on how you want your focal point to fit in with your home.
How do you make a mirror rustic?
Wanting a farmhouse style mirror but not really keen to go out and buy one? Let’s discuss how you can create your own AND give it that rustic look!
Firstly, find an inexpensive mirror that you want to use. Pick the style you want – do you want a rectangular mirror, full-length mirror, etc?
Secondly, using a utility knife, remove the frame and backing of your mirror. You’ll want to try and leave the sticky material on the back of the frame.
Thirdly, it’s time for the wood frame! Take whatever wood you’re using and fit it to the mirror’s outline.
Fourthly, you’ll want to choose a way to assemble your wood directly onto the mirror. Some people use pocket hole guns while others opt for staple guns. It just depends on your personal preference.
Lastly, once you have the solid wood on the mirror – it’s time to stain it! Pick a stain that will go with the rest of your home decor and stain away!
What is a pivot mirror?
A pivot mirror is a circular-shaped mirror that features a swivel rod on the back, so you can adjust it and move it around. This allows you to manipulate your lighting, look at yourself from different angles, and so on. Moreover, a pivot style is most commonly used for bathroom vanity mirrors or for powder room mirrors.
Why are pivot mirrors popular?
Pivot mirrors are SO handy! I use mine as a bathroom mirror and it’s great for when I’m doing my makeup, looking at acne (hah), or trying to pluck my eyebrows. It gives me great lighting and allows me to turn it, so I can see every angle under the light. I highly recommend getting one, even if it’s just for your farmhouse bathroom!
What are the benefits of a farmhouse mirror?
There are so many benefits to putting a rustic farmhouse mirror into your space! Whether you decide to put one in the living room, kitchen, dining room, or even your master bedroom – you can’t go wrong! I’ve always been a fan of wooden frames and just that rustic look, so when I decided to style my house with the modern farmhouse design, I knew I’d love it! So now, whether I’m putting in a wall mirror or a bathroom mirror, I know that it will have that farm-y look to it.
Moreover, mirrors are just a great addition to your house in general, regardless of style preference. Wall art is great, but when you have mirrors accentuating your furniture, such as your sofa or kitchen look – it just elevates your design.
