How do I style my entryway?
For the longest time, I dreaded even looking at my entryway. As soon as the kids (and husband) came home from school, my foyer table was a constant mess of clutter and junk. Eventually, I stopped organizing it and it just because a mess. However, recently I decided that I wanted to design an entryway that was stylish and would STAY CLEAN (with constant reminders for the kids to “take their junk off that table!”). So, I’ve put together my favorites tips below for all the entry table decor ideas.
Firstly, look at your space. Are you dealing with a small entryway? Or maybe you have a bit more space to work with? Decide what you want to fit in there. Often times, I like when people have an entry table and then a large rug heading into the rest of the house. Furthermore, I love filling the entryway walls with a round mirror and some super cute family photos. I mean, who doesn’t love wall decor!?
Secondly…
Secondly, after you’ve sized up your space and have found an entryway table, decide what type of home decor you’re going to place on top of the table. I tend to follow the motto “less is more”. For example, you could choose different heights for a more layered appearance. Find decor to put on your console table that will add visual interest (think different textures). Or, if you’re trying to go with a more unified look – stick to one color scheme and simple decorative accents! Additionally, think about the functionality of your decorative items. Maybe a woven basket to put keys in on top of your entrance table?
Thirdly, think about what exactly you’re going to incorporate into your entryway interior design. Grouping decor into odd numbers of three (whether that be candle holders, books, a statement piece, etc). This is really aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Think flowers…
Additionally, I always make sure I have a pretty vase of flowers (fresh) on my entryway console table. I feel like flowers are an entryway decor that makes people feel welcomed (and they smell good)!
Lastly, when designing your entryway, think about where you can make room for some extra storage space. Whether you put in a small bench and have room for shoe storage or miscellaneous items, so be it. I find this tip to be especially helpful when you’re dealing with small spaces.
What is the table called in the entryway?
Oh boy, I mean who really knows the answer to this question…right!? Typically, a table in the hallway is called a console table. However, if it’s towards the front of the house, people will often also call it an entryway table. Both types of tables are often narrow and tall, utilized so they don’t block the hallway. Basically, you can call this piece of furniture either a console table or entryway table. Either works!
What should I put on my entryway console table?
Well, we already touched on this briefly, but let’s dive a bit deeper into this question. Here are some of my top design ideas for making your entryway pop:
Firstly, if you have any antiques or vintage furniture with sentimental meaning, add them to your entryway. They look great AND they add so much character to your space! Talk about a bold statement 🙂
Secondly, think about adding some greenery! It provides an inviting entrance to guests…and is a perfect entryway idea that is easy and budget-friendly!
Thirdly, as I mentioned above, add a mirror! Whether you place the mirror directly above your small entryway table or in the hallway near the table design is up to you. In my opinion, both look great! I mean, let’s be real – who doesn’t love to take a quick glance at themselves as they walk down the hall!?
Lastly, don’t over decorate. For instance, while a wicker basket, a table lamp, family photos and a flower vase are all great decor ideas – it may be a little much to have them ALL on your tabletop. Take that kind of decorating into the living room!!
Therefore, when designing your entryway table, try and go at it with a minimalist point of view. If you can’t help but add more decor, think about adding some wall art above the table, so at least the table isn’t totally overcrowded. Seriously, in this instance less IS more!
