Add a little flair to your home with Havertys

With spring making an appearance finally, I was just talking to my mom about how I really want to spruce things up a bit in my home. If you haven't noticed on my blog, I'm not one to change things up a lot seasonally...I've always just kind of found a look I like and leave the room that way most of the year, except for during Christmas. We've been in this house for four years now and once I got my living room styled, it's stayed that way for years. And, I'm ready to mix things up. Since new furniture isn't in the budget, I figure I'll change things up easily with new throw pillows, some updated lamps other than the ones we've had … [Read more...]

Scalloped Table Revamp from Confessions of a Serial DIYer

Hi everyone! I'm Christy and I blog at Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer. I am so excited to be guest posting for Abbey today so she can squeeze in a few more days with her bundle of cuteness. Today I'm sharing a sweet table I redid for my last show. I found it at an estate sale last summer. The house I found it at looked like time had stood still and nothing had been touched in several decades. You seriously could have put up velvet ropes at each door way and called it a museum! It creeped my mom out, but I was mesmerized. Here it is in all it's dusty glory: I painted it with my DIY chalk paint and found a French graphic … [Read more...]

DIY Faux Pull Down Map from Brave New Home

I'm so thrilled to be popping over from Brave New Home today especially if it means Abbey gets to spend some extra quality time with her new little one. So thanks for having me here Abbey and so nice to meet everyone!Today I'll be sharing a little update to a world map that I already own. Previously, I just taped the map to the wall but I've been thinking on how to display the map a little more intentionally. So I created this faux pull down map look.I started with my map and some pieces of wood cut to the length of the map. Then I made a mark with pencil along the top of each piece to make sure I adhered my map on straight. It's easy to lose … [Read more...]

Tips on Achieving an Urban Classic Look for Less

2011-12-11 I Heart Naptime2

I wish I could say my house has a cohesive "look" or style to it, but it really doesn't {bad blogger!!}. Many people think that all bloggers have these perfectly coordinated homes, bright and colorful, always clean...and with all handmade items in each room. But I'm here to tell you folks, my house isn't perfect {or anywhere near}, it's not coordinated, it's not clean, and it's not handmade. There's so much I want to do to my home to update it, but I just can't find the time or money with two kids and a busy work and personal life. HOWEVER, if I did have a would definitely be an Urban Classic look. Here are some options I would … [Read more...]
