What Makes a Room Shabby Chic?
So, many of you are probably wondering – what even is the shabby chic design style? What makes a room “shabby chic”? To start, all shabby chic rooms are not the same. They all have slightly different aesthetics. The design style originated in the 18th century in Britain and was primarily used by the upper middle class. However, this style is timeless. This style contains a lot of rustic furniture and vintage decor. It uses many neutral colors – often whites and off-white colors are common. It also uses a lot of distressed furniture, old world textures and sometimes even light floral patterns.
Why Shabby Chic Style?
I get it. I do. So, if someone were to ask me 10 years ago what my interior design style in my house was going to be, I would have told them french country. Fast forward 10 years and I’ve gone through it all. Farmhouse style, the traditional look, cottage style…trust me, the amount of makeovers my home has seen is insane.
Recently, I’ve started to embrace the shabby chic interior look. It’s truly vintage flea market meets contemporary, new decor…and I am loving that. I find myself enjoying the soft colors and floral patterns. The shabby chic style just screams cozy, comfortable…even pretty. And I’m totally digging it.

Is Shabby Chic Going Out of Style?
I guess this question depends on who you ask – but for me (and many others), the shabby chic design style is timeless. However, if you aren’t wanting that super vintage, rustic feeling in 2021 – you can tweak the shabby chic style to meet your needs. Nowadays, many people are adding a modern touch along with busy florals, ruffles, you name it. I don’t think shabby chic will ever go out of style – it provides such a comforting feeling of familiarity.
Shabby Chic Bedroom Ideas – Headboards
So, a headboard can make or break your bedroom design. Seriously, you want one that will compliment your bed frame and bedspread.
This headboard is a bit on the pricier side – but it is one-of-a-kind. In other words, it’s handmade and can be painted with any color palette of your choosing. It has that distressed feel – but not too much to the point where it looks too vintage.
Painted Shabby Romantic Chic Headboard
Vintage bedroom look, here we come! This piece has a ton of detail – and I’m loving the white paint. If this doesn’t scream shabby chic design, I don’t know what does!
Oooo, la la, don’t you just love that title! Romantic – say no more! This bedroom furniture piece has a bit more of a contemporary vibe than the other two…but still totally that shabby chic look. In other words – we approve!
Look at that distressed finish – the perfect piece to add to your master bedroom.
Shabby Chic Bedside Tables/End Tables
So, we don’t give them enough credit, but we literally use bedside tables for everything. Charging our phone, holding that glass of water we told ourselves we’d drink later, resting our nighttime novel on its front…why am I talking like the bedside table is a human!? Above all, I think I just love them so much…they’re seriously so helpful!! Anyways – check out these shabby chic design bedside tables.
Painted Shabby Chic Night Table
This painted furniture piece is a shabby chic staple. If you’re going with a white shabby chic bedroom style – look no further.
Omg – that light pastel color vibe…perfect for that vintage furniture look.
Shabby Chic Throw Pillows
Therefore – shabby chic bedroom decorating ideas wouldn’t be complete without throw pillows…right?!
Years ago, I would have turned my nose at the rose print on these floral pillows. But now!? I’m loving it.
If you’re a ruffles gal – these are your throw pillows.
Shabby Chic Chandeliers
Every bedroom needs a chandelier that pops. Don’t worry – I’ve got you covered 🙂
Shabby Chic Vintage Crystal Chandelier
Therefore, if you’re feeling a crystal chandelier, this is a super pretty option.
For instance – this chandelier is gorgeous – the roses add a nice touch to the home decor.
Shabby Chic Armoire
So, I don’t know about you, but the armoire in my bedroom is probably my favorite piece of furniture. Most importantly it feels special – none of my husband’s clothing or mismatched children socks are allowed anywhere near my armoire. I’m determined to find a new one that compliments the shabby chic style…
I love the distressed coastal chic style that this armoire brings to the table…
Upcycled Vintage Jewelry Storage
So, this piece may be too small for your needs, but it is really gorgeous. I’m in awe of the etched glass painted flowers – this takes chic bedroom design to the next level.
