I’m finally getting around to sharing with you one of my favorite projects we did at Plaid Crafts in April! This project is so fun and innovative and you can use any color combinations you want to make STUNNING artwork in any size! I like to call this DIY Geode Marbled Artwork, but you can check out other tutorials from my fellow creators like this one from Amy Latta Creations where she calls it Mixed Media Faux Geode Canvas.
What you need:
Rock Salt
Paintbrushes
Disposable cups, bowl, and foil tray
Wax Paper
Optional: gloves
FolkArt Marbling Paints
How to make Geode Artwork
Step One.
We started by painting the base of our canvas with the FolkArt Brushed Metal Paint. You can choose any color you like, but we started with gold.
Step Two.
The next step is the super fun part. We used FolkArt Marbling Paints to marble our canvas. Follow the instructions on the bottom and marble about 1/2-3/4 of the canvas using your choice of colors. You can mix and combine colors to get the exact shades you want. Use your disposable cup to layer the paint and then simply pour over your canvas.
Step Three.
After you’ve marbled your canvas (per marbling instructions on bottle), you use the Glitterific Paint in your choice of colors to finish the other half of the canvas. I chose to use two different Glitterifics for my artwork!
Step Four.
Now you’re onto your rock salt crystals! These blew my mind, they were so easy to make and so pretty!!
In your disposable bowl, mix together equal parts loose glitter and mod podge (think around 4 tablespoons of mod podge and 4 tablespoons glitter). Then add rock salt until well covered. You then take your rock salt mixture and gently pour over the section on your canvas where the marbling and the glitterific meet.
Let your artwork dry and then admire…and just think of all the different combinations you can do with this project.
Didn’t they all turn out SO cool and unique?!
