What are Converse?
Converse is an American shoe company that has been around since 1908 – a long time! Also known as Chuck Taylors, they were originally designed as a basketball shoe but have since become more popular amongst skateboarders and such. They pretty much boast two main designs – the low-top and the high-top shoe.
Features of Converse All Star
For the purpose of this Converse vs Vans comparison, we’ll be using the Chuck Taylor All Star low-top. Let’s take a look at why these Converse Chuck Taylor’s have stayed in style for so long.
- Slip-on design and fixed no-tie laces
- Canvas upper is lightweight
- Durable rubber sole
- Great for versatility (can wear with different outfits or even to the gym)
What are the benefits of Converse?
Oh, where do we begin! There are SO many benefits to these classic slip-on shoes. For one, they’re slip-on and so easy for everyday wear. Moreover, they’re actually pretty high quality for the price. I’ve had a few pairs ever since high school that I pair with leggings and a hoodie – and they’re still in great condition!
While they were traditionally worn by basketball players, the All-Stars have since evolved into becoming more of an all-around shoe. Plus, let’s be honest – who doesn’t own a pair of All-Star sneakers? Wearing Converse is not only comfortable but stylish as well! So, Converse vs Vans – which one is it? Let’s find out!
What are Vans?
Vans is an American manufacturer of popular skateboarding, surfing (etc) shoes. Founded in 1966, they haven’t been around for as long as Converse, but they are just as popular. They’re well-known with surfers, snowboarders, BMX, and motocross competitors as they are often sponsoring their competitions.
Features of Vans Old Skool Classic
For the purpose of this Converse vs Vans comparison, we’ll be using the Vans Old Skool shoe – which is probably the most popular pick out of Vans shoes.
- Low top
- Lace-up shoe
- Reinforced toe caps
- Supportive padded collars
- Signature rubber waffle outsoles
Is Converse better or Vans?
So, now to the loaded question that you’ve all been waiting for! Vans vs. Converse – which one is it?! It all comes down to what type of shoe you’re looking for.
Pros of Converse
- Versatile
- More patterns and designs
- Durable
A pair of Converse can really be worn in any setting. Whether you’re lifting weights at the gym or are going to pick up your kid from school, they’ll always fit the bill. Plus, they have a bunch of different designs and patterns (way more than Vans has). When you wear Converse, you know that they’ll last a long time and will look good with a blazer or a hoodie. They’re also the more durable option of the two (I find that their rubber sole is longer lasting) and the cushioning is a bit better. Therefore in Converse vs Vans – we’d recommend Converse as far as durability and quality goes.
Pros of Vans
- Have a wider fit
- Go with almost anything
While I am a lover of Converse, they are really narrow. Therefore, if you’re looking for a wider fitting shoe then you should wear vans.
Cons of Converse
- Super narrow fit
- Harder to clean
Cons of Vans
- Not as versatile as Converse
- Not as durable/as much cushioning
Which is more durable: Vans or Converse?
Converse is definitely the more durable option out of the two. They have better arch support and a bit more cushioning than Van shoes. Both are fairly long-lasting, but I’ve found my pairs of Converse to last for years while Vans typically last a year or two.
Moreover, Vans also have thinner insoles which can hurt your feet when you’re wearing them everyday or walking from place to place.
Is Converse the same as Vans?
No, Converse and Vans are two completely different brands and not related at all. While they do make a somewhat similar style of shoe, the companies are different from each other. Converse is coined the “basketball shoe” while Vans are known for being a more skater/snowboarder type shoe.
