Being a working mom with a busy family life, one thing I’ve realized and tried to do more of these last few months is to get into a routine. That sounds so “duh” and simple, right? But it can be easier said than done. Life happens and it’s then that routines and to do’s get pushed to the side, but it’s in those moments that I’ve realized that I’m just making life HARDER on myself by not prioritizing our goals and routines as a family. So over the last few months I got serious about what was important to us and what needed done and I found that when I forced myself to get into certain habits and routines, it all of a sudden came easier!! So today I thought I’d talk a little bit about what has helped me manage the chaos, how to make a family routine , and how I have a free printable daily routine chart to help you out! I’m also sharing how I use Amazon Alexa Skill Blueprints to help our family remember our daily chores and to do’s even when all we want to do is forget them!
How to get into a routine and stick with it
One of the things I’ve found helpful is to create a list. I try to narrow my list down to 3-5 items I need to accomplish and prioritize them throughout my day. For example, on the weekend I know that I always have three things I want to get done:
- Do all the laundry
- Clean the house
- Come up with a meal plan for the week and get the groceries for it
So in this case, those are three things I ALWAYS want to accomplish over the weekend in order to feel like I’m prepared for the week ahead.
I use Amazon Alexa to help set up my week and remind me of these to do’s. So I set an alarm for Saturday morning reminding me and my family to start our routine of cleaning up the house. We typically blast the Greatest Showman soundtrack through our Alexa and clean for about 30 minutes together as a family so it gets done quickly.
On Sunday’s, I set a reminder through Alexa to remind me to start my laundry and while my laundry is starting, I review the grocery list I dictate to Alexa throughout the week to order my groceries online (it’s worth the extra $5 to me to save time and just pick them up). I LOVE that when I run out of something I can just yell, “Alexa, add toilet paper to my grocery list” and she keeps track of it all for me.
