When we first moved into our house the previous owner had left behind an old, outdated, broken up address sign on the rock that sat outside the garage. I’m sad to admit that I have left that “address sign” on the rock for 2.5 years before I decided to discard it and do something a little more updated with that rock. So today I wanted to show you how EASY it can be to update something like this on your home to make a bigger statement to those visiting your home or trying to locate it for the first time. This DIY Home Address Rock makeover is so simple, you just need some paint, a stencil, and a paintbrush!!
So here’s what we started with BEFORE. It wasn’t horrible, but it was broken and didn’t stay on the rock well. I’d find it laying in the grass more often than not.
And here’s what I’ll be showing you how to do in under a few HOURS….
How to DIY a Home Address Rock:
HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer
White Paint
Drop Cloth
Permanent Marker
Small Paint Brush
Black Acrylic Paint
I started by cleaning my rock off the best that I could and getting my HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer ready to go with some basic white paint.
As you can tell, I’ve gotten some GOOD use out of my HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer over the years! This is just another easy project where my Paint Sprayer comes in handy. Once my Paint Sprayer was ready, I laid a drop cloth around my rock and started spraying until I got my desired look. I didn’t want a super thick coat of paint, I just wanted enough to give it a nice whitewashed look.
I let the rock dry overnight and then the next day I came back with my stencils and got started on the fun part.
I used my favorite Monogram Letters Stencil from Plaid Crafts and pulled out the numbers and letters I wanted to use. Then I carefully traced them onto the rock. Once they were traced on, I used my black multi surface paint to paint inside the stenciled lines to fill in my address numbers.
I added some embellishments and a little ode to my last name and love how the whole thing turned out! Ideally, the numbers and the letters would have been flip flopped, but unfortunately there wasn’t enough room to do it that way.
Let’s admire the before and after again for this large address rock….
It’s a super easy and fun outdoor project for the summer! If you have a rock in your yard, consider fun ways to make it reflect your family!! Address rocks for your yard are an easy way to create a personalized addition to your home!
