Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 21 oz can cherry pie filling
  • 1 Devil's Food Cake Mix (Plus ingredients needed to make according to package instructions)
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocoloate chips
  • ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • Spray a large slow cooker insert with cooking spray and spread the cherry pie filling across the bottom.
  • Prepare devil's food cake according to package instructions. Mix in almond extract if using for that traditional black forest flavor. Pour batter over the cherry filling + smooth out to cover cherries. Cook on low for 3-5 hours, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.  Mine took about 4.5 hours.
  • Once cooked through, remove the lid and + turn off the slow cooker.  Prepare icing by stirring milk and chocolate chips in a medium saucepan over medium heat until melted.
  • Once melted, pour icing over the cake. It makes a lot of icing, so feel free to save some of it for serving.
  • Spoon Cake into serving bowls and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
