Since we moved into our house almost five years ago I feel like it has changed drastically. My style and color palette tastes have changed throughout the years and much to my husband’s dismay, I find myself constantly changing things up, adding new decor, updating and more. We’ve updated our children’s bathroom to make it a nautical style (Nautical Bathroom Makeover), we’ve re-done our son’s room when he moved out of the nursery, we made over the nursery from a boys room to a girls room (Whimsical Nursery Reveal)…and now we’re onto our master bedroom. The master bedroom update is long coming and not QUITE done yet, but I wanted to share with you the major progress we’ve made and how a few simple decor updates can really transform a room!!
When we first moved into our house the room looked like this….BEFORE
Yep…you’re seeing that correctly…large, dark, purple stripes in the room. I liked the stripes, but hate the color. They left all the walls white and just had one bold accent wall. So we painted over the stripes, then we painted the other three walls the lighter teal stripe color that we used and ended up with this….ANOTHER BEFORE
Not bad…not great. Very monochromatic, not a lot of personality, but it suited us for a while. A few months after that we added a headboard with one of my VERY FIRST blog posts about a DIY headboard *the photography was terrible for that post* So then we left with something like this until recently….
Pretty boring room. I guess I’ve seen worse, but it was just boring and not at all what I had hoped it would be. There were PARTS of it that I liked, but mostly I just felt it needed something. So I came across this gorgeous duvet from Crane and Canopy that spurred the start of the update process….
I chose the Valencia White Pintuck Duvet for this room because I knew I wanted to stay something very crisp and pretty and light, but I also wanted some texture for the room, which was previously lacking. When I opened up the box and put it on the bed I just KNEW it was exactly what the room needed.
Next up…I needed some pops of color.
It’s so easy for me to be matchy matchy and try to find something in the same shade of teal as the room, but after more thought I decided I needed to think outside the box, so I grabbed two dark navy blue pillows from Pottery Barn one day and paired it with a gorgeous pillow from Pop O Color on Etsy (she hand makes them to the size you need). I filled all three with down inserts, so they’re incredibly soft and plush!
The pink, teal, and navy just make me SWOON and I think it’s EXACTLY what I needed to spruce up the room. Combined with the texture from the Crane and Canopy duvet, the room really looks so fresh and ADULT like!
I chose a gray and white dotted throw from Target for a little added accent on the bed. The jury is still out on this one. I’m considering changing it to a navy blue throw when I find the right one. This throw from Crane and Canopy (which I found AFTER I bought the gray throw) would actually be quite perfect!
If you’re in the market for a new duvet or bedroom update, I highly recommend checking out Crane and Canopy…here’s some of what they have to offer!
And I’m CRAZY about these Coral Scalloped Sheets and Duvet!
So much great stuff to choose from. Here’s what some of my other blogging friends have done with Crane and Canopy stuff, as well!
Disclosure: I received the Crane and Canopy duvet for free in exchange for my review and write up. All thoughts, opinions, and photos are my own.
