We moved into our 1982 ranch exactly four years ago last month and since then we’ve been continually working to update and modernize the space, but also keep it’s original charm. We painted the trim, we created an accent wall in the living room, we painted the exterior brick on the house, and now we’re tackling the interior brick walls in our sunroom. There are a million different ways to tackle interior brick…some people like the whitewashed look, others look for a German Schmear, but I wanted something easy and clean that would transition into our living room/kitchen area seamlessly. Today I want to show you how to paint the interior brick walls in your home using the HomeRight EZ-Twist Paint Roller. The HomeRight EZ-Twist Paint Roller is awesome for this type of job because it makes painting a breeze. You can pull the paint up into the handle of the roller and then evenly distribute it on the wall while you’re painting…meaning less room for drips and spills and even painting in way less time!! But first, let’s jump into how to paint interior brick walls with the help of my husband….
Learn how to paint interior brick walls the easy way
We started off by pulling the furniture away from the walls and then taping off the wall we wanted to paint. Using a wet rag, lightly wipe off any cobwebs or other debris on the walls to ensure that the paint goes on evenly. Some people recommend washing the brick before painting, but because this brick has been inside for so many years, we felt confident that it was clean enough to proceed without washing it.
Once taped off, we laid down drop clothes and got to work cutting in the edges with an angled paint brush. This is probably the most time consuming/labor intensive part of the whole job.
For this project, we used our living room interior color, which is Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. It’s a nice light gray color that’s very popular. It dries lighter than you think, so when you first apply it it almost looks white until it dries (don’t be alarmed!).
Once we cut it in, we then used the HomeRight EZ-Twist Paint Roller to help us get the rest of the project done. You can grab the EZ-Twist Paint Roller off Amazon, on the HomeRight website, or at Lowe’s in their paint department.
You can see where you fill the paint up in the handle of the roller and then just use the roller to roll paint evenly onto the wall with ease. It’s super easy to clean up too once you’re done!!
We rolled two coats of paint onto the brick and it took overnight to dry. We’re waiting to pull the tape off because sometimes when brick dries, it sucks the paint in and spots you didn’t see before appear. So there may be times when you paint brick where a third coat of paint is necessary to complete the project. For now, I think two coats will do, but we’re giving it another day or two to ensure we don’t need to do one more.
I like how it turned out, but I will say that it draws attention to the fact that we really need to get to painting the sunroom white now! It’s been on our to do list for a while and painting the brick was the first step to starting the process of redoing our sunroom and making it a nice bright, light space!! No more orange wood and mismatched trim!
We plan to add a set of shelves above our desk to give us more storage, as well as some new lighting in the space to help modernize the room a bit! So much to do, so little time. But with our EZ-Twist Paint Roller helped us knock this wall out in about 48 hours with little mess!! Check back in another week or two with updates on this space!!
