This weekend is Spring Forward, did you guys know that?? March 21st is the first official day of Spring and today I’m getting in the mood to start cleaning house. My cleaning posts have been super popular with you guys lately, which tells me that I’m not the only one getting ready to tidy up for spring (see How to Clean Your Fridge and How to Clean Your Patio Furniture for more inspiration). Today I thought I’d walk you through another amazingly simple tip on How to Clean Windows the Easy Way! If you guys are familiar with my blog, you probably know where I’m going with this and what I like to use for all my cleaning needs, but humor me and see how easy this is, will you?!
How to Clean Windows the Easy Way
What you need:
Rag or Paper Towels
*optional: Lemon Essential Oil
The HomeRight SteamMachine was the tool I used to help with this task. I remember not-so-fondly as a kid when my mom would start removing all of the screens from the windows in the house, she’d pull out several big pails of water and soap and scrub brushes and we’d spend the day scrubbing screens and window sills each spring. It took about half a day and we were spent after the whole task was complete. All that scrubbing and wiping and rinsing…I think that’s probably why I really despise window cleaning to this day.
BUT–I found an easier way to do it. Hallelujah.
So let’s take a look at the before–
Here’s the window–we have 1980’s windows that open outward instead of upward…something I thought I’d hate when we bought this house but I’ve come to love. The screens are on the inside of the windows. So look at all that dust, gunk, and debris! You’ll either want to vacuum that out ahead of time or expect to have to wipe up a bit after.
I started by pulling my screens out above my kitchen sink window here and took them outside. I started up my HomeRight SteamMachine and I put 4 drops of lemon essential oil in the tank. This isn’t necessary, I just like the smell and it gives that great fresh scent!
Once the screens were out, I let my SteamMachine heat up and I got to work.I used the small scrubby nozel to gently scrub the screens until they were clean, then I quickly dried them with a rag.
Next up, I tackled my gross window sills. They were caked with dirt and grease and it would have been really gross to have to scrub all of that…I probably would have had to clean my rag off several times if I did it the old fashioned way,
In this case I used my HomeRight SteamCleaner with the scrubby brush on the end and scrubbed all of the gunk away, most of it blew off the window on it’s own. Then I took a paper towel and wiped up the rest. Meanwhile, I rinsed off my SteamCleaner brush and went onto the the sill.
See how clean it is now?! And that literally took me all of 15 minutes to accomplish with no dirty hands, no heavy scrubbing, and no huge mess to get rid of after.
You can say what you want about doing things the “old fashioned way,” but why put yourself through all of that when one tool can help you accomplish so many tasks so quickly and easily? The HomeRight SteamMachine kills 99% of germs with the steam alone, so you don’t need any harsh chemicals or special cleaning products, you just need the power of the steam.

Do you use the steam machine to clean the actual window, the glass part?
