As a working mother, I feel like some weeks I can’t get anything done on time. I rush home from a full day at work, see my son off the bus and rush to get my daughter from daycare. Most of the time my son is changing in the car as we drive from daycare to tae kwon do. We spend an hour at tae kwon do, rush home and start dinner. While dinner is cooking we’re rushing through homework, math problems, and spelling words..then it’s time to eat dinner, clean up the kitchen, and take/give baths. After that, we’re usually ready for about 30 minutes of watching a show, a snack or dessert, and then bed. I’m sure all you moms out there can relate with the CHAOS of a busy family schedule and I feel like once the weather gets nice, it usually only gets harder to manage with the onset of baseball for my family! So moms–how do you keep up with that busy spring schedule?! I’ll give you a few of my tips and ways that I can make sure I’m not overlooking MYSELF too during the scheduling chaos.
So no lie–yesterday I didn’t get home til almost 7 o’clock at night–served my family a store bought chicken with mashed potatoes for dinner and nearly STARVED after eating a small salad for lunch. I learned my lesson very quickly with making sure to carry snacks around for those busy weeknights.
Special K has New Protein Snack Bites and Nourish Snack Bars in amazing flavors like Caramel Pretzel Cashew, Chocolate Cherry Nut, Caramel Almond Sea Salt, and Chocolate Coconut Cashew!
So here’s my personal tips for how I keep up with our busy family schedule:
- I make LISTS! Each day I make a list of things I need to do, places we need to be, and if it’s looking a little crazy, I try to order my list so I don’t overlook anything. For example, my list last night consisted of picking my son up from school, heading over to tae kwon do, stopping by the store after his class, getting my son’s haircut, rushing home and cutting up our store bought chicken and feeding everyone, bathing our kids, then bed. And let me tell you, by the time we hit the haircut place…I was STARVING. **It’s moments like this that I remind myself that I need to carry around snacks. The Special K Protein Snack Bites would have been PERFECT in that situation….
2. My next tip, obviously, is to pack snacks and bring a water bottle along with you. I don’t know about you guys, but I drink a lot of water and can start to feel worn down and dehydrated very easily. I keep a refillable water bottle in my purse so that I can drink on the go and a few snacks not just for me, but for my kids too. Then we’re not all cranky if we have some extra stops to make.
3. I’ve started stocking my car with items like diapers, wipes, a few books and toys, as well as extra changes of clothes for my kids. It saves us time running in and out of the house each time we need to head out and it has saved the day more than once in extreme situations where things take longer than normal. With some Special K Nourish Snack Bars and a few good books, I’m good for at least another 20 minutes of peace and quiet from my daughter until she remembers that she was really ready to head home about an hour ago. LOL
4. My final tip is to consolidate efforts. For example, we bring spelling words in the car with us so we can practice spelling as we drive home or I bring my son’s reading books home and have him read to me in the car. He spells out words he doesn’t know and I help him along. We also practice math facts in the car…adding and subtracting mostly. This helps knock out some of the homework practice we need to do in the 20-30 minutes it takes us each way to get from one place to another! Genius, right?!
