This past Sunday I turned 35. Do you ever turn one of these “important” numbers and have a brief moment trying to figure out where the time went between them? I swear I just turned 30, yet here I am. Last week I had a bio-metric screening done as part of my insurance rewards at work and for the first time ever, a few issues popped up in my blood work. Nothing alarming or to be overly concerned with, but it’s the first time I was outside of the normal range for anything…and coincidentally right as I was officially hitting my mid-30’s with a vengeance. I had already set a few goals for myself this year, but now I’m more focused than ever to prioritize my health.
Like the first day of the New Year, my 35th year has me focusing hard on lifestyle changes.
For starters, I’m going to make a better effort to work out. I inevitably always find excuses as to why I can’t find time, but ultimately, I just need to make time. I signed up for an Orange Theory Fitness membership and I’m trying to take even 30 minutes daily to get moving…walking, running, jumping on the trampoline and what not.
Next, I’m watching my food choices and cutting back. I hate the term “diet” because I’m not going to “diet” or starve myself. Nor will I be counting calories or points. I’m still going to enjoy food, but I’m going to make better decisions. I’m going to eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water, and eat less sugar (note “less” sugar…not “no” sugar…because what fun is life if you can’t indulge at times?).
I’m also going to make more of an effort to make sure I’m getting what I need. I want to be better about taking my vitamins. I’m also adding Nature Made Probiotics, at Kroger, to my morning routine. Nature Made Dual Action Probiotic + Energy‡† B12 Gummies contains 4 Billion probiotic cells or CFU* per serving that helps support digestive health and vitamin B12 which supports cellular energy production.†
Finally, I want to start trying to get to bed earlier. All too often my busy mom schedule keeps me up at night with my list of to dos running through my head. I’m trying to take an active approach to unplugging after dinner and spending some time relaxing with my family. This not only helps me fall asleep, but I can actually get a more restful night sleep when I take time for myself and my kids.
So 35 is looking like it’s going to be a good year and I have big plans for it. But most importantly, any day is a good day to start taking care of yourself and your health. Don’t let yourself continue to make excuses for not being healthy, pick a day and stat focusing on your health because ultimately, there’s nothing MORE important.
