In my home, if it’s not Italian for dinner it’s Mexican. My husband is from Texas and we LOVE ourselves some tasty Mexican food. And not just ANY Mexican…Mexican food with some heat. It’s gotten so bad with my husband putting hot sauce on EVERYTHING, that now our 4 year old son asks for hot sauce on everything too. No lie…our 4 year old complains if we’re out of hot sauce. We even hit up specialty grocery stores checking out the hot sauce aisles for new and unique things to try! So today, I thought I’d share with you an easy Mexican Pizza recipe with hot sauce.
Large flour tortillas (2 per pizza)
One can refried beans
Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1 lb. ground beef, browned
El Yucateco Hot Sauce (I used the Black Label reserve AND the Red Habanero Sauce)
It’s all about layering! Put your first tortilla down, layer beans, cheese, meat onto it…then mix together about 1 cup of sour cream with a few teaspoons of the Black Label Reserve hot sauce (more or less depending on the heat you’d like).
Now here’s the think about the Black Label…it packs some heat, but it’s not JUST about heat. I actually am so disappointed when we try a new hot sauce and yes, there’s TONS of heat, but no real flavor. It’s almost like I’ve been fooled. I want the HEAT and the FLAVOR and El Yucateco delivered both for us! It has a rich, smokey, chipotle flavor, but with some good-not overwhelming heat.
So mix that into your sour cream and smother over your pizza. Finally add in any other toppings you’d like at this point…jalapenos, black olives, onions, etc. Then top with another tortilla and cover the top with cheese.
Preheat your oven to 350 and place on a baking sheet to bake for about 10-15 minutes until everything is melted and bubbly and the tortillas are somewhat crispy.
We chose to add some more Red Chile Habanero sauce on top of the pizza, cut it into four slices and served hot. Our son even ate it (without the red sauce on it) and loved the kick that the Black Label added to the sour cream to give it a nice, smokey, heat.
The whole meal takes a matter of minutes and is something fun even the kids can get involved with and make their own!! For more great hot cause recipes visit HERE.
El Yucateco hot sauce can be found in a Walmart near you in the Mexican/Ethnic food aisle.
