It seems like during the summer and around the holidays we have family and friends staying with us the most. Before people come, my OCD self cleans up (as much as possible sometimes) and I particularly pay the closest attention to making my bathrooms especially clean and if they’re spending the night, I try to make it as inviting as I can.
I have five easy tips to spruce up your bathroom for your next house guests, as well as an EASY Welcome gift to leave in the bathroom for them as a thank you for visiting…at the bottom of the post!
De-clutter your counter tops and clean your bathroom WELL. Less is more. Put away all your stuff and only leave out the essentials. In my guest bathroom I like to set out a hand towels, some lotion, and pretty scented hand soap…and sometimes a candle if I’m so inclined. Make sure your mirror is smudge free and your trash can is emptied.
Use fresh flowers in a small bud vase for decoration. When I’m having guests for dinner, I try to find some inexpensive flowers that I can put in a small bud vase or mason jar to set out in the bathroom. I think small touches like this really show that you’re putting in the extra effort without over doing it.
Leave fresh towels out for them to use. I always love it when I arrive to someone’s house and they have already nicely set out freshly laundered towels and have them folded or hung up and waiting for me. It’s just a nice courtesy so that when they do want to shower they don’t have to ask for towels.
Leave them travel size shampoos/conditioners/soaps, etc. in the bathtub. My best friend gave me this idea several years ago. She purchased mini travel sizes and left them neatly in her shower for her guests to use (it’s important to note they were fresh, unopened, and set out nicely…not some old bottles she left around for 6 months unused). I thought that was the sweetest thing ever and immediately remembered I needed to do that for my extended house guests.
Leave them a small welcome gift in the bathroom if you want to make it extra special. Gift ideas can be really simple like a little tray of candies, a scented candle to take home, or you can make Homemade Vanilla Brown Sugar Bath Scrub and leave it out for them. It’s so EASY!
Homemade Vanilla Brown Sugar Bath Scrub
**makes two small mason jars worth of scrub**
It’s such an EASY way to surprise your guests with something for them to go home with and most likely you’ll have all of these items already in your pantry (maybe not the sunflower oil, but you can substitute olive oil if needed).
AND YES, I did try this scrub out after I made it (since I kind of made a hybrid scrub of all the different recipe ideas I saw online) and it left my hands and arms feeling so soft and clean and smelling so nice! I can’t wait to use it tomorrow morning! Hope this helps you guys with your summer house guests!
