I fondly remember my summer’s as a kid…my grandma used to come up from Florida to watch us and help my parents out and when she did we did a lot of crafts, we cooked/baked a lot, and sometimes she’d even take us out to see her sister, my Great-Aunt Barb, at her winery for the day. Aunt Barb lived on a huge piece of land surrounded by vineyards and with her wine shop across from her house. They still make great wine up in the northeast Ohio area…check out Klingshirn’s Winery if you’re in the area. Anyways, visiting Aunt Barb I was obviously too young to drink wine, but I DO remember her making us AWESOME grape juice ice cream floats as a treat.
These floats were so tasty and a fresh take on the traditional soda based float, so I thought I’d share them with you today in case you were looking for some new treat ideas for your kids this summer.
Obviously, fresh grape juice from a local vineyard/winery is preferable, but since that’s not an option for me at this moment, I purchased grape juice from the grocery store along with a tub of vanilla ice cream. BUT if you have the option to get freshly made grape juice for these, do it! You’ll thank me later!!
Simply scoop about two scoops of ice cream into a glass, add your grape juice and VOILA! A great treat for a warm summer day.
A little tip…you’ll probably want little ones drinking these outdoors with clothes that won’t get stained easily 🙂
