Howdy! I’m so excited to be visiting and sharing some Spring crafts with you today. Last week I was up to my eyeballs in hot glue, eggs, and paint. I ended the week by sewing a DIY Spring Pillow Slipcover with some pretty fabric I had been storing for a couple of years. There’s nothing like a “free” craft, right? 🙂
Materials: One yard of fabric
Sewing machine or iron on fusible webbing
How to: First measure your pillow insert and add two inches to the height and width. This will be your first piece.
Cut a second piece using your first piece for a template but add 4-6 inches to the length. Cut that piece roughly in half.
The two halves will overlap each other to create an opening for the pillow. If your fabric has wrinkles, now is a good time to iron your pieces. 🙂
The next step is to lay those two halves wrong side up, fold an 1 inch flap over and iron so it stays in place (pieces 2 and 3).
These two flaps will be your first hems or iron on webbing. (I put my hem 3/4th of an inch in.)
Now its time to pin all three pieces together. Lay your large piece (Piece 1) right side up and piece 2 and 3 wrong side up on top making sure all four sides match.
Pin 1 inch from the edge around all four sides. You can use your measuring tape to make sure its the correct size.
Sew around all four sides. To sew a perfect corner; make sure your needle is in the fabric, lift the presser foot, turn fabric, and put the presser foot back down.
Almost finished! Turn your fabric right side out and use your finger or the end of a pen to push out the corners.
Ta da! The easy way to make a slip cover. They store a lot easier than an entire pillow!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY project. Click on the images below to see what else I was up to last week. 🙂
